She received the prize for her outstanding performance in ‘The Shameless,’ which participated in the Un Certain Regard section of the 77th festival. The festival saw numerous Indian women shine, highlighting India’s expanding importance in world film.
“This is for the queer community everywhere, and all other marginalized communities all over the world, for bravely fighting a fight they shouldn’t have to fight,” Anasuya said passionately as she accepted her prize.
“More female gaze is the way forward, and the browner, the better,” she said.
Anasuya Sengupta, a Kolkata native, delivered an outstanding performance as Renuka in the film “The Shameless,” directed by Bulgarian Konstantin Bojanov. Renuka’s horrific yet inspiring escape from a Delhi brothel, in which she kills a police officer to achieve her freedom, is the subject of the film. The tale revolves around her complicated and turbulent relationship with her love interest, performed by Omara Shetty.
Kani Kusruti’s Watermelon clutch
The Cannes Film Festival 2024 is well-known for creating fashion statements, with celebrities putting their best foot forward and stealing the show on the red carpet with dazzling outfits.
Kani Kusruti, an Indian actor famed for her previous film ‘All We Imagine As Light’, was observed posing with an unusual accessory—a watermelon purse.
The internet quickly recognized the subtle message behind Kani Kusruti’s watermelon clutch as a symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian people, who are being bombarded by Israeli soldiers.
Watermelon has lately been a symbol of solidarity for Palestine, as its red-green color and black seeds resemble the Palestinian flag.
Nancy Tyagi’s enthusiasm and inventiveness
Nancy Tyagi, an Indian influencer, stole the show at the Cannes Film Festival 2024 with her stunning, self-made pink outfit.
Nancy Tyagi, who hails from a tiny hamlet in Uttar Pradesh, rose to prominence for her ability to create eye-catching designer outfits from scratch while staying within a budget. She takes her fans on a creative journey that includes fabric choice and the laborious sewing of delicate items.
“It feels weird to walk the red carpet at the 77th Cannes Film Festival as a debutante. I put my heart and soul into making this pink gown, which took 30 days, 1,000 meters of cloth, and more than 20 kilograms. The trek was difficult, but each moment was worthwhile.
I’m overjoyed and grateful for everyone’s love and support. This is a dream come true, and I hope my invention astounds you as much as your encouragement has inspired me. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!” Nancy commented on Instagram.
