Poonch IAF Convoy Strike: According to authorities, the strike occurred in the evening as the IAF convoy moved towards Sanai Top in the district’s Surankote region. 

Poonch IAF Convoy Attack: Security officers started a search operation this morning (May 5) in reaction to a terrorist attack on an Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy, sources told ANI. The attack at Poonch on May 4 claimed the life of one soldier.

According to the ANI report, officials stated that the search operation was conducted to discover the terrorists responsible for the incident. Security forces have set up roadblocks and are performing comprehensive checks in the region.

Indian Army reinforcements arrive.

Additional Indian Army troops arrived at Jarra Wali Gali (JWG) near Poonch late Saturday night in reaction to the incident.

The attack in Sanai village injured servicemen, who were quickly taken to Udhampur’s Command Hospital. Unfortunately, one of the injured individuals died from his injuries.

Following the attack, the local Rashtriya Rifles unit, with assistance from the Army and police, conducted cordon and search operations in the area to arrest the assailants.

The troops have requested assistance from the army and police, as a large search operation has been initiated to locate and neutralize the terrorists.

Security has been increased in the Sanai region near Jarran Wali Gali (JWG) Poonch in Surankot, and security officers are meticulously inspecting each vehicle.

IAF Confirmation and Security Measures

The IAF verified the event on Twitter, stating that the targeted convoy had been secured. They stated that the inquiry is still underway.

“During the subsequent confrontation with terrorists, the Air Warriors responded by returning fire. Five IAF servicemen were injured by bullets and were taken to the nearest military hospital for prompt medical care. One Air Warrior died from his injuries later. The local security personnel are continuing their activities,” they stated.

Officials said that the trucks used in the attack had been secured near the air base in Shahsitar.

This is the second attack on security forces in Poonch this year.

The IAF convoy was attacked on Saturday, marking the second such attack on security troops in Jammu & Kashmir’s Poonch area. Earlier this year, an Army convoy came under heavy fire from suspected terrorists, forcing the authorities to launch a search operation.

“At about 1800 a.m. today, a Security Forces convoy of vehicles was shot upon by suspected terrorists from a jungle near Krishna Ghati in the Poonch area, with no losses among our personnel.

Joint search activities by the Indian Army and JKP (Jammu and Kashmir Police) are underway,” the Army’s White Night Corps announced on X.
