On Tuesday, rain fell in Mumbai and other areas of Maharashtra for the second day in a row. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, and rural areas of Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, anticipating severe to very heavy rains. The BMC said late Monday evening that all civic, government, and private schools and institutions will be closed as a precautionary measure owing to the IMD’s severe rainfall warning.
According to the BMC statement, BMC Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagarani has encouraged people to exercise caution and avoid leaving their houses unless absolutely required. “The BMC has placed all of its disaster management teams on high alert.” Citizens are encouraged not to panic and to contact the BMC’s crisis management cell at 1916 for help,” it stated.
Mumbai Rain: Schools Closed Schools and institutions in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, and rural Ratnagiri-Sandhudurg have closed for the day due to the rainfall threat. However, school personnel, including administrators, teachers, and non-teaching staff, have been ordered to report to school during office hours to help with crisis management operations supervised by the local administration.
Mumbai Rain: Trains Rescheduled On Tuesday, the Central Railways rescheduled many long-distance trains. Train No. 11061 LTT-JYG EXP has been postponed for 13.55 hours. It was originally planned to depart at 11.30 a.m. Another train, 04126 (BDTS – SFG) Bandra Terminus Subedarganj Special J.C.O, originally scheduled to depart at 11:00 a.m., has been rescheduled for 15:30 a.m. from Bandra Terminus.
However, Central Railway’s CPRO told ANI that local trains are operating 2-3 minutes behind schedule, whereas harbour line locals are running virtually on time.
Mumbai Rain: Airlines Issue Advisory.
The persistent rains and air traffic congestion at Mumbai Airport have hampered aircraft operations, IndiGo has stated. The airline has given passengers the option of booking an alternate trip or requesting a full refund. Air India is also providing a full refund to travelers. In a tweet, the airline stated, “Heavy rains in Mumbai are disrupting flight operations, resulting in the cancellation of several of our flights. Air India is giving full refunds or one-time gratis rescheduling for tickets confirmed for travel on July 8th, subject to certain circumstances.”
Vistara has also discontinued flights from Mumbai.

Up to July 12, IMD predicts heavy to moderate rainfall in Palghar, Thane, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nasik, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Sholapur, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Osmanabad, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal.
