The Association of Mumbai Civic Engineers (AMC) has urged the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to take action against contractors rather than issue show cause notes to engineers.

Recently, 13 road engineers were notified of delays in pothole repairs.  Meanwhile, 9,057 potholes have been recorded around the city, with 8,791 of them fixed.

Sainath Rajadhyaksha, president of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Engineer Union, stated, “The government has sent notifications to 13 engineers. However, officials must be aware of the ground realities.Contractors are unable to provide the necessary supplies and personnel to repair the potholes.

Pothole repairs were nearly impossible last week owing to the constant rain. Other agencies are responsible for maintaining roads while infrastructure work is happening, although the BMC also repairs potholes on these routes. “Our engineers are working 18-hour days, including weekends,” he explained.

“We have written to civic leader Bhushan Gagrani, expressing our worries over the recent activities. We have asked the civic leader not to demoralise engineers by issuing such letters. Additionally, we have requested a meeting with other authorities to discuss traffic difficulties,” Rajadhyaksha stated.

“BMC authorities claim they have sent warnings to the engineers, requesting the reasons for the delays. The engineers are already submitting their responses, which will be collated and handed to the civic head,” stated a road department official.
