The New York Knicks announced that forward Bojan Bogdanovic would miss the rest of the season due to left foot surgery.
Bogdanovic, who turned 35 last week, was already struggling with a wrist injury when he hurt his foot nearly immediately after entering Sunday’s Game 4 victory against the Philadelphia 76ers for the first time in the second quarter. Bogdanovic became entangled with 76ers player Nicolas Batum while pursuing a loose ball, and Bogdanovic collapsed to the ground in excruciating pain.
He eventually hobbled off the court and was ruled out shortly after.
Bogdanovic was acquired from the Detroit Pistons at the trade deadline, along with Alec Burks, to improve New York’s depth for the stretch run, and he has served as a reserve for the Knicks through the first four games of this series.
This includes a crucial pair of three-pointers in the fourth quarter of New York’s Game 1 win at Madison Square Garden.
Bogdanovic has a $19 million contract for next season, with $2 million guaranteed. It becomes completely guaranteed if he remains on the roster on June 28.
New York is already without All-Star forward Julius Randle for the remainder of the season due to shoulder surgery, and Mitchell Robinson is doubtful for Tuesday night’s Game 5 due to an ankle ailment.
With a win Tuesday, the Knicks will advance to the second round in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2000, and they will do it at Madison Square Garden for the first time since 1999.
