The major topic on everyone’s mind is whether MS Dhoni will play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2025. The former captain and wicketkeeper recently hinted at his future plans, suggesting that the final decision is up to the BCCI and what is best for CSK.
The 43-year-old, who saw his club, the Men in Yellow, leave the group stage of the IPL 2024, indicated that his return to the field with CSK will be determined by the norms and regulations imposed by the apex cricket body and the IPL governing council prior to the 2025 auction.
“There is plenty of time for it. We’ll have to see what decision they make on player retention, etc. Currently, the ball is not in our court.
“So, once the rules and regulations are formalised, I will make a decision, but it must be in the best interests of the team,” Dhoni remarked when a fan questioned him about his future during a promotional event in Hyderabad.
The acclaimed captain, who led CSK to five IPL victories, has decided to stand aside from his leadership post ahead of the 2024 season, handing over to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
On Wednesday, the BCCI met with all ten IPL franchise owners in Mumbai to discuss the rules and criteria for the forthcoming auction. However, there is disagreement among certain teams over player retention and the scheduling of a possible mega auction.
MSD underwent knee surgery last year after leading CSK to the IPL final, where they defeated the Gujarat Titans, captained by Hardik Pandya. Dhoni presently plays entirely in the IPL after retiring from international cricket in 2020.
