A corpse was discovered during the hunt for TV and radio personality Dr. Michael Mosley on the Greek island of Symi.
The 67-year-old went missing on Wednesday after venturing out for a stroll from Agios Nikolaos Beach.
The corpse, which has yet to be properly identified, was discovered in a rocky region near Agia Marina Beach on Sunday.
Symi’s mayor stated that the corpse was discovered when crews were combing the coastline with cameras.
According to a police source, the victim had been dead “for a number of days.”
The corpse was discovered near to a fence. It has not been moved from its current site, a few metres from where children play in the sea at Agia Marina beach.
According to PA news agency, a bar manager who was with journalists discovered the corpse after the island’s mayor “saw something” by the pub’s gate and notified personnel.
Ilias Tsavaris, bar manager at Agia Marina, stated, “They called me and said, ‘You know what, We saw something from far away, Can you go and check?'” So, I went there.
“So when I walked up, I saw something like a body.”
Rescuers have been combing the region with aircraft every day, he explained.
Over the course of five days, Greek officials conducted a thorough search for Dr. Mosley amid high temperatures.
Firefighters, dogs, helicopters, drones, locals, and authorities from both Symi and other islands contributed to the endeavor.
On Saturday, BBC News received CCTV footage showing one of the last confirmed sightings of a man identified as Dr. Mosley strolling with an umbrella adjacent to the port in the village of Pedi on Wednesday.
His four children had also accompanied his wife, Dr. Clare Bailey Mosley, to the island.
Dr. Mosley was reported missing after leaving Agios Nikolaos Beach for a stroll at 1330 local time (11:30 BST).
His wife eventually reported him missing.
