Gurmail Baljit Singh and Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap have been arrested for the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, but the third accused, Shiv Kumar, is still on the run.
Gurmail Baljit Singh, the 23-year-old accused in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, was on bail in another murder case for which he had already done time in jail, according to his family in Haryana’s Kaithal. The family reported that they had not communicated with him in a long time.
Relatives of Gurmail’s co-accused, 19-year-old Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich, said they were uncertain of his whereabouts and had lost contact with him.
Gurmail’s grandmother, Phuli Devi, who lives with the accused’s younger brother, informed India Today that he was jailed for murder in 2019. He was freed on bond three months ago and hasn’t contacted his family since.
“When he arrived home, he stayed for only a few minutes. I had gone away for some work, and when I returned, Gurmail had disappeared,” she stated, adding that “he had not kept touch with the family and did not come home for any holiday or family activity.”
Gurmail was his father’s only son. Following his father’s death, he and his mother resided with his uncle’s household. Gurmail’s grandma claimed that he had been fighting from infancy, which culminated in his expulsion from their house 11 years ago.
Meanwhile, Rajesh Kashyap’s mother stated that he had moved to Pune to work at a scrapyard and had lost contact with him.
She explained, “He moved to Pune to work at a scrapyard. That was all I knew. I was unaware of what he was doing in Mumbai… He came home for Holi but did not return. He wasn’t even speaking to me on the phone, so I can’t say anything about the situation. He is perhaps 18 to 19 years old.”
The mother of the third accused, Shiv Kumar, who is now at large, also stated that he used to work in Pune. “He used to work in Pune; he hadn’t returned home after Holi.
Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader, was shot dead outside his office in Bandra, Mumbai, on Saturday night. Gurmail and Kashyap informed Mumbai police that they were members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
A member of the same gang claimed in a social media post that the Bishnoi gang was responsible for the murder, implying that the leader’s ties to Bollywood actor Salman Khan were a factor. A third shooter, Shiv Kumar, also from Uttar Pradesh, is still at large, and a manhunt has been initiated.
