Bihar politics crisis:

According to a state government notice, IPS Sushil Mansingh Khopde, who was formerly assigned as the Additional Director General (Operations) of the Special Task Force, has been named ADG (Prohibition).

Patna: Following allegations that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may rejoin the BJP, the Bihar government has moved 79 Indian Police Service (IPS) and 45 Bihar Administrative Service (BAS) officials to the state.
Bihar’s bureaucratic reshuffle took place on Friday.

IPS Amrit Raj (1998-batch IPS), who previously served as ADG (Prohibition), has been appointed ADG (Operations). Deepak Ranjan, the present Superintendent of Police in Jehanabad, has been appointed commandant of the Bihar Special Armed Police, Bodh Gaya.

The incumbent Superintendent of Police (Araria), Ashok Kumar Singh, has been appointed as the new commandant of the Bihar Special Armed Police, Sasaram, according to a government announcement.

Meanwhile, there is talk that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may rejoin the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which he quit in 2022 to establish the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ with the opposition.

Several NDA politicians, including former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, have hinted that the JD-U-RJD coalition has broken down.

Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) president Jitan Ram Manjhi believes the current Mahagathbandhan (grand coalition) administration will not endure long.

The HAM president stated that after seeing the words of his erstwhile ally and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, he sensed a shift in the state.

“Recently, I stated that there will be a shift in Bihar after January 20, citing Nitish Kumar’s declaration. He has said several things about RJD…On this premise, we concluded that the coalition would fail. Their union will not endure very long. Nitish Kumar’s goal of becoming Prime Minister has been dashed… As a result, after leaving the coalition, he may run for Lok Sabha elections on his own or join another alliance,” Manjhi stated.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushil Kumar Modi remarked on Friday that the door might be opened if necessary, implying a possible resumption of relations between Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JDU.

“We are monitoring all events and, if necessary, will make an appropriate decision. No door is permanently locked in politics, and it may be opened if necessary.” Sushil Modi stated:.

After leaving the BJP in 2022, Nitish Kumar took the initiative of assembling all opposition forces to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling party in the national election.

He organized the first gathering of opposition parties in Patna, and it was generally assumed that he would eventually become the coalition’s convenor.

It all began when former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya took a swipe at the RJD’s ruling ally, JDU, on X, writing that while the’socialist party’ (JDU) styles itself as progressive, its ideology shifts with the changing wind patterns, causing cracks in the ruling alliance.

If Nitish Kumar crosses over, it will be the fourth time he has switched sides.

In Bihar’s 243-member Assembly, the RJD has 79 MLAs, followed by the BJP with 78, the JD (U) with 45, the Congress with 19, the CPI (M-L) with 12, two each of the CPI (M) and CPI, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) with four seats, and the AIMIM with one, plus one Independent legislator.
