Defending champions CSK are fourth on the points standings, with 5 victories and an equal amount of defeats in 10 matches. The Punjab Kings, on the other hand, have four victories in ten games and are in seventh place.
For new Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, winning coin tosses is proving to be an absolute nightmare.
On Wednesday, Ruturaj lost his ninth coin flip in ten games in the Indian Premier League season.
And this time, it worked in favour of the Punjab Kings, who took full advantage of the toss result and circumstances in Chepauk to deliver CSK a seven-wicket defeat at home.
Amidst a losing streak of tosses, Gaikwad said he is under pressure when it comes to coin flips and stated he has been practicing them before matches.
“I practiced the tosses (during practice sessions), but it isn’t working well in the match; I’m not sure what to do.
To be honest, I feel pressure when I go to the middle (for the toss), not throughout the game,” Ruturaj stated during the post-match presentation.
With CSK managing just 162 after being sent into bat, the Punjab Kings chased down the goal with 13 balls remaining.
Despite a promising start, CSK slipped into a tailspin in the middle overs, losing wickets on a regular basis, resulting in a disappointing total.
Ruturaj conceded his team was about 50–60 runs short, and the dew factor subsequently aided Punjab in their pursuit.
“Probably 50–60 runs short; the pitch was not fantastic when we batted, but it improved later on. We also came up short with the impact rule.
“Very difficult (to defend 162 in dew).” Even in the final game, we were stunned to win by such a large margin. This is something we cannot control. We can bat a little better in the initial innings. We worked hard in the past two games to score 200–210 points. Ruturaj remarked, “It was difficult to get 180 on this pitch.”
