Somnath Gharge, Superintendent of Police Raigad, said that travel influencer Aanvi Kamdar survived after plunging into the canyon and was recovered. 

However, throughout the therapy, she died.

On July 17, a travel influencer died after falling into a canyon while recording a video near the Kumbhe waterfalls in Raigad’s Mangaon district, according to authorities.

The deceased was identified as Aanvi Kamdar (26), a Mumbai resident. Ms. Kamdar, a travel influencer, enjoyed filming reels.

She had gone to the waterfalls with her friends to enjoy the wet season there.

While photographing and filming the waterfall, her leg slipped, and she plunged into a 350-foot-deep abyss.

As soon as the tragedy was reported, the Sahyadri Wildlife Conservation Society and Mangaon police officers were at the scene, along with the rescue troops.

Somnath Gharge, Superintendent of Police Raigad, stated that the woman survived after plunging into the gorge and was retrieved. However, she died while undergoing therapy.

“While descending to rescue the woman from the gorge, large stones fell on us. At first, it appeared that the woman was not alive. However, when I got closer, I noticed she was breathing, confirming that she was still alive. She was promptly sent to the hospital. However, she died during the therapy,” Somnath Gharge explained.

The rescue mission began following an assessment of the situation.

Earlier, on June 30, at 12:30 p.m., a family of five drowned in a waterfall near the Bhushi Dam in Lonavala, Pune.

The rescue teams retrieved the bodies.

One of the two children who went missing after the family drowned has been found dead, according to a top district official.

Suhas Diwas, the District Collector of Pune, urged the public to be cautious when visiting their surroundings and to avoid approaching any water bodies during the rainy season.

He stated, “I appeal to the people to be prudent and avoid going near any waterfalls or streams. We’ve issued alerts, and management has urged us to address any type of situation. Similar instances have occurred over the previous few days. Care and adequate preparation are required, taking into account the meteorological conditions.”
