Multiple persons were shot at the Juneteenth event in Oakland.
Multiple individuals were shot at a Juneteenth celebration near Lake Merritt in Oakland on Wednesday night, according to authorities.
According to an Oakland Police Department spokeswoman, the celebration, which had up to 5,000 attendees, was disrupted by a sideshow involving “motorbikes and vehicles” near Grand and Bellevue avenues at 8:15 p.m.
At some point, a brawl broke out down the street from the sideshow, drawing a large audience.
“During that fight, multiple shots rang out,” said Paul Chambers, the OPD’s strategic communications manager. He stated that the gunshot occurred at about 8:45 p.m.
