In a contest that saw the Raiders lead 42-0 at halftime, rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell completed 20 of 34 throws for 248 yards and four touchdowns.
The NFL record for most points in a single game during the regular season, which was achieved by Washington in 1966, was missed by the Raiders by nine points.
A win maintains the Raiders’ modest chances of earning an AFC wildcard.
Vegas enters the contest with a 6-8 record after losing three straight games, including a 3-0 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
“I think it might have been good for us to have a short week,” stated O’Connell. We just needed to come out here and play, trust ourselves, and put on a complete team effort. We couldn’t really wallow in our sorrows over what transpired on Sunday.
“It was awesome.”
Officials also create history.
Apart from the action between the two teams, the officiating staff created history by having an all-black on-field crew and replay crew for the first game ever.
The referee was Ronald Torbert, who started off as an NFL official in 2010.
Additionally, it was the first time that three women had worked together as a crew: Desiree Abrams, the replay assistant, Artenzia Young-Seigler, the replay official, and Maia Chaka, the line judge.
