Tottenham will apparently have to spend a large to bring in a Premier League striker this summer, and a midfielder sale might help fund the purchase.
Tottenham Hotspur may have to smash their transfer record this summer to acquire another proven Premier League forward, which they may partially pay by selling one of their midfielders.
Tottenham remain in contention for fourth place and Champions League football next season after a 2-1 home win against Luton Town on Saturday, following an impressive season under Ange Postecoglou.
The Australian arrived last summer after two successful seasons at Celtic, and he brought in a number of players as he sought to change both the style of play and the club’s fortunes following Spurs’ difficult 2022–23 season, which saw Antonio Conte leave and Ryan Mason appointed as interim manager.
Last summer, winger Brennan Johnson joined Nottingham Forest for £47.5 million on deadline day.
Tottenham might look to Forest again for another attacker, with England Under-21 international Morgan Gibbs-White allegedly interested in joining the north London club. However, the north London club may have to pay a high fee for the former Wolves star.
According to Football Insider, Spurs have been advised they must give more than the £47.5 million they spent for Johnson in order to acquire Gibbs-White, with bids above £50 million being considered.
And if other clubs enter the competition, Tottenham may be forced to shatter their transfer record of £54 million, which they paid Lyon to recruit Tanguy Ndombele in 2019.
Spurs will also be looking to offload some of their present players in the summer, and the Lilywhites might help fund a move for Gibbs-White by moving midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The Dane, who is out of contract in 2025, is dissatisfied with his current lack of playing time at the north London club and is worth between £20-25 million.
Hojbjerg has not started a Premier League game in over two months and is poised to leave this summer, with Juventus allegedly keen in signing the former Southampton midfielder.
